Additional text

Additional text allows you to provide extensive descriptions for your products. As a rule, these are properly written texts that may be attached to the product, or have been written as supplementary information. Additional texts include primary descriptions, blurbs or reviews.

Additional text is specified in ONIX 3.0 in the text content composite. In ONIX 3.0, you are able to specify in TextType or x426 using values from code list 153 , which type of additional text you are providing.

The additional text is to be entered in Text or d104. The XML-Attribut language allows you to specify a language code (code list 74), defining in which language the text was written. Text or d104 are repeatable in the TextContextComposite, which allows you to reflect all languages in a single composite.

Specifying a text format allows you to determine how your additional text is displayed in Metabooks, but especially to booksellers. The text format is to be specified in ONIX 3.0 using values from code list 34 in the attribute textformat. The following text formats may be used with Metabooks.

Metabooks will only forward a fixed number of (X)HTML tags to booksellers; also, all attributes are removed from the tags. Examining and resolving the (X)HTML texts is meant to ensure that the tags are processed correctly by the various data recipients and no undesirable content (scripts, etc.) are distributed. The following tags can be processed by Metabooks.

• b, blockquote, br, cite, code, dd, dl, dt, em, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, i, li, ol, p, pre, q, small, strong, sub, sup, table, tbody, td, tfoot, th, thead, tr, ul

ONIX 3.0 requires a target audience for each additional text. The audience is to be specified in ContentAudience or x427 using values from code list 154. Additionally, ONIX 3.0 for Metabooks allows you to specify for each additional text up to three authors (TextAuthor or d107) as well as an organisation responsible for its content (TextSourceCorporate or b374). You can also specify a title (SourceTitle bzw. x428) for the additional text, e. g. the title of the article from which the review was taken.

ONIX 3.0 allows you to specify when your additional text was first published as well as during which time span the additional text is to be displayed by booksellers. The validity specification is forwarded by Metabooks and thus to be interpreted by booksellers. Further, ONIX 3.0 enables you to specify the date of the most recent update of the additional text.

You can store any of the dates in ONIX 3.0 in a content date composite. The type of date is given in ContentDateRole or x429 using values from code list 155 and the actual date in Date or b306. The date format is to be defined as an attribute of the date information using values from code list 55.

A review article from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (quote in German and English language published on September 20, 2016, written by Andreas Platthaus, as an unformatted text) is to be entered as follows. Please note that ONIX 3.0 allows more extensive information and that ONIX 2.1 information in Metabooks only includes a subset of the content.
